What is Yin Yoga?
Yin Yoga is a quiet, very beneficial practice where postures are held for a longer period of time with relaxed muscles.
What are the benefits of this practice?
Physically, we access the deep layers of our connective tissue. Connective Tissue is Yin because it is stiff and inelastic. By passively stretching and compressing the tissue we expand flexibility and restore the natural mobility of our body. Energetically, Yin opens the body’s meridian system, invigorating the energy centers of the body to release blockages, increase your energy flow and support emotional equilibrium. Letting go and melting into the postures helps to release mental and emotional tensions that are ingrained in our bodies. Regular practice has a calming effect on the nervous system, lowers stress hormone levels and cultivates mindfulness. Yin is a rewarding practice and helps to maintain balance in our busy yang lifestyles.
How to practice?
Yin Yoga is primarily about being comfortable in a posture. We use blankets, bolsters and blocks. We guide you in and out of each posture and also help you to set up. Our Yin classes provide a safe environment for you to let go and relax completely.
